HOUSTON, TEXAS, September 16, 2013 – RaceWay and RaceTrac were recognized by the Near Northwest Management District as a "Change Champion" for their Binge store development. The RaceWay location, at 6737 W Tidwell at Bingle Road, features a convenience store and gasoline sales. The store recently extended its operations to 24 hours a day and now offers fresh hot pizza.

"We are so pleased to have this new development by RaceWay," declared District President Wayne Norden. "This is a great amenity for our community, and an example of the Near Northwest's growing economic strength. This development is already spurring reinvestment in nearby properties. The Near Northwest is the place to invest, work and live."

James Venable, Regional Manager for RaceWay, in accepting the award said, "We are very excited to receive this recognition. The Bingle RaceWay is a flagship location that is in the top 5% based on gallons of gas pumped. " He added, "The strong sales at the Bingle site are a testament to the outstanding service that DJ and his team provides on a daily basis"

DJ Shah, Bingle RaceWay operator, thanked RaceWay and the business community for this opportunity, and acknowledged the support of his family.

"Change Champions" are commercial property owners or businesses that are fueling the transformation of the Near Northwest Area through improvement to their property. The award is given quarterly, and was announced at the District's Business Network Breakfast on September 5th.

The Near Northwest Management District's recent Livable Centers Study made a number of recommendations for improving the livability and values of the area. The District has seen a growth in commercial and residential values, and has attracted $100M in new developments and redevelopments in the District.

About the Change Champion Award
The award is made each quarter by the NNMD. Award winners are recognized at the District's Business Network Breakfast, and are presented a commemorative plaque. The "Change Champion" pennant is displayed on the property throughout that quarter.

About RaceWay
RaceWay's roots go back over 75 years to 1934 when Carl Bolch, Sr. opened independent gas stations in St. Louis, Missouri, under the name Carl Bolch Trackside Stations. His strategy was to be independent of major oil companies thus be able to consistently offer lower-priced gasoline to the public. In 1959, he relocated and acquired the Oil Well Company of Opp, Alabama, which consisted of numerous independent stores located, for the most part, in rural areas of Alabama. These stores and the ones opened after them evolved into the early RaceWay concept: full-service stores opened in conjunction with small grocery stores.

In 1967, Carl Bolch, Jr. the current Chief Executive Officer, joined the company in Montgomery, Alabama. He expanded the company's geography throughout the South and into Texas on the newly constructed interstate system and pioneered the concept of self-service gasoline in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

The company relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1976, and in 1979 adopted the brand "RaceTrac" for its company-operated stores. Contractor-operated stores, many of which were the original Oil Well Company stores, became branded RaceWay. Today RaceWay has grown to almost 300 stores across 12 states in the Southeast with plans to open 20 additional stores in 2012.
