Houston Mayor John Whitmire shared his thoughts and plans within his new administration. Mayor Whitmire noted the challenges due to understaffing and lack of vehicles and equipment and underscored that there are many great people working for the City. He reported working on developing an urban initiative to fund necessary infrastructure and working with other governmental entities and community organizations to bring resources to address issues.
He is focused on addressing neglected needs while eliminating waste on conflicts of interest. He is working to bring resources to improve mobility and transit, flooding and crime – none of these issues respect city limits or county boundaries. Regarding the upcoming Budget, Whitmire stressed that the City must pay its bills while assuring that city services such as permitting and public safety have adequate staff and infrastructure and parks are funded.
President Wayne Norden gave updates on several of the District’s capital projects.
