Here is a recap of our June 2nd Business Network Breakfast with Casey Goforth, PE speaking about the Antoine Rebuild project on behalf of Houston Public Works.
Key points from Casey Goforth:
- The Antoine Drive Rebuild project extends for about 5 miles, from US 290 to W Mount Houston. More than 4 miles lie within the NNMD boundaries.
- The project is in design, and meetings will be scheduled for further public input.
- The project will full reconstruct the roadway and drainage, upgrade/replace public utilities, replace traffic signals, and include 10’ shared use paths for pedestrians and bicyclists.
- The three existing bridges will be replaced, and an overpass is proposed at the railroad crossing to prevent delays due to trains.
- Design for Segment 1 (Victory to W Mount Houston) should be completed in 2024 and construction finished in 2027.
- Segment 2 (US 290 to Victory) design should be completed in 2025 and construction finished in 2029.
- NNMD is working with the design team to incorporate elements of its streetscape master plan, including colored and stamped concrete at intersections.
- The project is expected to remain within the current right of way, and medians will be narrowed. Some property at corners may be acquired.
- Median openings will be evaluated to preserve existing trees.
- Driveway construction and closures will be coordinated with property owners.
- This project will be an economic catalyst while improving mobility and increasing safety for all users of the corridor.
